Curriculum Requirements

More specific class expectations and guidelines are distributed and reviewed in each class at the beginning of the school year. These should be also be reviewed by parents.

Visual Arts Department

Homework Make up Policy: If the student does not have her homework and has a legitimate excuse, she may bring it to the teacher the next morning during homeroom. However, two points will be deducted from the homework grade – if homework is not in by homeroom the next day, an automatic zero will be given.

Testing Make up Policy: If student is absent and returns with an absence note, she may make up the test on the first or second day she returns.

Minor writing assignments and quizzes will be given on a regular basis and can be unannounced. Make-ups will be given at the discretion of the teacher.

  • Written assignments will not be accepted after the beginning of the class period in which they are due.
  • Written assignments with advanced due dates will drop one grade for each day they are late. They will not be accepted after two days and will receive a grade of zero. Parental notes will not be accepted for assignments with advanced due dates.
  • In cases of absence, a student must bring in any work that had an advance due date; this work must be handed in upon the student's return to school.

Homework Make up Policy: Student must make up homework by the day after her return.

Testing Make up Policy: Student must make up test by the day after her return.

Homework Make up Policy: Absentees are required to do the homework and hand it in on time when they return to class on the next scheduled class meeting.

Homework Make up Policy: On the day a student returns to school after being absent, regardless of the number of days absent, the student must report to her teacher at 7:30 a.m. to make any arrangements regarding missed class work, homework or tests. A student absent for a lengthy period of time will have 3-5 days to make up tests/missing work.

Testing Makeup Policy: If a student misses an announced test/quiz due to absence, she must be prepared to take the test the day she returns to school.

Teachers will use lab folders for proof of required hours necessary to sit for Regents exam.

Make up Policy: The student must make up tests, quizzes, projects and homework the day after her return. Extensions must be requested by a parent note submitted the day the student returns.

Participation/Criteria Policy: Students will receive 1-10 points per quarter based on attention, active asking and answering of questions, note taking, having materials, raising hand to participate, contributing to group work and responding to academic challenges. Points will be determined by the quality of participation: always (9-10), frequently (7-8), regularly (5-6), sometimes (3-4) or never (0-1-2).

Theology Department

Homework Policy: All assignments are expected to be completed on time. If a student is absent, she must turn in the assignment the day after she returns to school.

Testing Makeup Policy: Students with excused absences may make up a test/quiz at the discretion of the teacher. A zero will be issued if a student fails to make up a test/quiz within one week or if the absence is unexcused or illegal absence. Theology Department grades will only appear on the mid-year and end of year report card.

Diploma Requirements and Regents Assessment

St. Catharine Academy diplomas are issued to graduates who fulfill all requirements. The program of studies includes required academic courses and electives. Local diplomas, Regents diplomas or Advanced Regents diplomas are issued to graduates who fulfill the requirements.
