Britney C. ‘25 was featured on the Sisters of Mercy website and social media as a guest writer for Black Catholic History Month. Her essay about the Venerable Pierre Toussaint traces his life from slavery in Haiti to gaining his freedom and a reputation as a successful hairdresser and charitable person in New York City.

SCA Music and Theology Teacher Making Music in the Classroom and the Church

Congratulations to Stephen R. Johnson, Music and Theology teacher, who recently had four hymns included in the Lutheran Service Book. As a member of the committee for the Songs of Deliverance Psalms conference, Stephen was a key member of the planning group who oversaw the program.  Held at Concordia University in Nebraska, the conference provided workshops for musicians of sacred music to come together and discuss the ways in which music can elevate theological understanding.

The new white board desks at St. Catharine Academy are encouraging real-time collaboration in the classroom. As one teacher explained working on the desks which double as white boards give students the opportunity to see each other’s work and share ideas. It also gives them a break from technology as they work in this new inviting environment on group projects.

Regis and SCA join together for TACHS bootcamp

Educators from Regis High School in Manhattan (pictured) and St. Catharine Academy (SCA) in the Bronx offered a TACHS prep boot camp at SCA for 8th graders preparing to enter Catholic High Schools next Fall. Students received instruction and test-taking tips during the Saturday morning intensive. The TACHS exam will be held on Nov. 8, 2024. SCA's TACHS number is 215.

St. Catharine Academy has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning SILVER distinction by the College Board. The School was also recognized with the AP Access Award, which “recognizes Saint Catharine Academy as providing all students the chance to participate in AP, including students of underrepresented populations.”
